In 1986, the farm Eden was surveyed for the first time.  The land surveyours named the farm Eden because it literally lay in paradise.

The late Hendrik Jacobus Gildenhuys and his wife Ziempie, bought the farm in 1938.  they took residence in 1941.  The garden landscaping and lay out took place in 1948

In 1971, the second generation, Poedie and Judith Gildenhuys took over the farm.  Judith started the nursery in 1980.  Today Eden is widely known for rare and exotic plants and especially for its variety of indigenous trees and plants.

The third generation, Werner and Elize moved to Eden in 1993.  Elize began the Tea Garden in 1994.  Visitors from all over the world enjoy her delicious homemade dishes in this tropical paradise

Farming activities were expanded in 2003 when the neighbouring farm FLEUR DE LYS was purchased.  Today Werner and Elize farm there.

Game such as Kudu, Tsessebe, Rheedbuck, Bushbuck, Red Duiker and occassionally Leopard still roam the farm.  Eden is also a bird watchers paradise.
