1986, the farm Eden was surveyed for the first time. The
land surveyours named the farm Eden because it literally lay
in paradise.
The late Hendrik Jacobus Gildenhuys and his wife Ziempie,
bought the farm in 1938. they took residence in
1941. The garden landscaping and lay out took place in
1948
In 1971, the second generation, Poedie and Judith
Gildenhuys took over the farm. Judith started the nursery
in 1980. Today Eden is widely known for rare and exotic
plants and especially for its variety of indigenous trees and
plants.
The third generation, Werner and Elize moved to Eden in
1993. Elize began the Tea Garden in 1994. Visitors
from all over the world enjoy her delicious homemade dishes in
this tropical paradise
Farming activities were expanded in 2003 when the
neighbouring farm FLEUR DE LYS was purchased. Today
Werner and Elize farm there.
Game such as Kudu, Tsessebe, Rheedbuck, Bushbuck, Red
Duiker and occassionally Leopard still roam the farm.
Eden is also a bird watchers paradise. |
